honored as "Composer of the Year" at MIDEM for his opera,
"The Handmaid's Tale". The

Poul Ruders is currently writing an opera for the opening
of the Royal Danish Opera's new opera house. Based
on Kafka's "The Trial", the opera will explore the black comic
aspects of Kafka's saga. Two
new all-Ruders recordings will be issued by Bridge Records.
The first features "Guitar Concerto No. 2"
"Cello Concerto No. 2" and "The City in the Sea";
the second, a DVD, features a filmed portrait of Ruders, new
recordings of orchestral works, and a live
performance by Thomas Ades, of Ruders's "Piano Sonata No. 2".
In the summer of 2003, Poul Ruders will be
Composer-in-residence at the Aspen Music Festival, capping a year of
prominence in American musical life.
