Poul Ruders News New works! Recently completed Ruders compositions include Third Symphony (2006), written for the Royal Danish Orchestra, Michael Schønwandt, conductor, commissioned by the Serge Koussevitzky Music Foundation in the Library of Congress. Watch this site for the announcement of a premiere date. Light Overture (2006) for orchestra. This 9 minute composition is a dazzling romp incorporating dance elements, brilliant orchestration and Ruders's celebrated rye wit. Commissioned and premiered by the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, Justin Brown, music director, Light Overture has been recorded for Bridge Records- available July, 2007. Cembal d'Amore, second book (2007). Composed for Speculum Musicae, this work follows up on Ruders's wonderful duo for piano and harpsichord, Cembal d'Amore, first book. Written for the same combination of instruments, Speculum Musicae will premiere this work during the 2007-2008 season. New and upcoming recordings! The recording of the opera Kafka's Trial has been issued on the DaCapo label. The two disc set features the original cast with the Royal Danish Orchestra conducted by Thomas Søndergård. Poul Ruders Edition, Volume 5 will be released by Bridge Records in July 2007. The recording features five premiere recordings: Cembal d'Amore, first book for piano and harpsichord; Light Overture for orchestra; Credo for two violins, clarinet and string orchestra; The Second Nightshade for orchestra; and Air with Changes, for solo harp.
